Today was the official practice day. We had a comprehensive briefing in the ‘igloo’ hangar and a forecast of 32C today and SE winds blue - of course - and climbs to 6500’.
Tomorrow should be 39C with NE winds.
53 gliders have registered and today all but PNL and GG flew, it took around an hour to launch the grid.
The task was a 345km for the big wings and 299km for the rest.
John Hudson the contest director talked about Human Factors and how it can influence a positive outcome, he used the landing in the Hudson river as an example.
Some wag called out ‘so do you want some of us to land in the Murray??’
Most of the pilots are back now with the usual tall tales of low saves and blue conditions. From what I’ve heard the conditions matched the forecast with the odd climb to 7000’.
Scores should be starting to appear as the pilots come into the bar to download their flights.
Briefing tomorrow is at 10.15 with an official opening by the local mayor.
