Canadian Nationals 2023

Rockton, Canada,   24 July 2023 – 4 August 2023

Practice Days 1 and 2

Monday was the first practice day and with thunderstorms in the afternoon forecast there was no flying.

Tuesday the thunderstorm forecast was better, although a brief rain shower did envelop the airport just as the launch had been completed.  Prior to the rain a large hole appeared in the release area around the middle of the launch and many of the club class gliders had a sled ride back to the runway with not a ripple in the air.  The rain then reinforced their decisions to stay on the ground.

As the Open/18 m class launched more cu started to form in the release area and they were able to connect.  With over half the club class on the ground at this time their task was cancelled.  Open/18 m was cancelled shortly after as it was not looking like a reasonable task could be flown.

A few pilots went on task and once they made it about 15 km to the west the weather improved and it turned out about 4 pilots were able to complete the task.
