South African Nationals 2011

Jihoafrická republika,   10. prosince 2011 – 22. prosince 2011

Thurs. 15th December – 4th Contest Day

Carol lifts her quill and reports from Welkom>>

Last evening there were huge banks of cloud and blow offs from storms, and during the afternoon the skies had looked threatening on and off with dark grey clouds rolling in, but amazingly there was little rain over Welkom during the day or last night.  Feel sure there must have been some heavy rains but definitely in other areas.

This morning there are blue skies with sunshine and a southerly wind and the temperature is definitely cooler, and there are some residue scrappy clouds from last night’s storm clouds.

At briefing Stephan announced that he has a replacement trailer to use on its way from Orient and thanked all those present for the help given.

Briefing shows an Atlantic high off to the west and a broken front to the east.  Max temperature only expected to be 26.5°, but dewpoint -2.5°, with blue conditions expected for the next three days before we get more cu and stormy weather.  Winds today expected to be westerly with more s/sw flow later in the afternoon.

With a limit of the available good area – due to much wet ground in surrounding areas, the Open/18m. have two tasks, whilst the Club class have only the one task set.
First launch today is expected to be at noon with gridding at 11 a.m.  Tasks as follows:-

Open/18m.
Task A:  330.6 km. Greylingsdrift – Kroonstad – R7 – Control S
Task B:  293.3 km. R10 – Geneva – R7 – Control S

Club
159.4 km.  Wesselsbron – Odendaalsrus – R7 – Control S
