The inclement weather has forced us to cancel the day again and today is the last day so tha's a wrap for the Multiclass National Championship. We have had a great gathering of pilots and friends over the last week and although the weather didn't allow us to fly every day, the tasks that were set were challanging and exciting.
Congratulations to Keith Essex for winning the Open class and Mark Wilson for winning the Racing class.
Centennial Park in Taupo is a great place to fly from.

Today the task setters were very optimistic about a fast day with expected speeds for the open class to be around 120kph and for the racing class to be around 80 plus kph. Two racing tasks were set with the open class having 369km and racing 251km. It was meant to be a blue day but there were clounds to the north on task marking the way but the conditions were very soft in areas and the speeds were not acheived in either class. There have been some challenging conditions over the last couple of days for both classes. On Wednesday we saw a number of landouts and a number of land backs, however, there were successes for some pilots who managed to get around the task. Unfortunately for the two pilots of the racing class that managed to get around they received no points. Thursday started and finished with a lot of wind. Racing class was on the front of the grid and most got away before conditions deteriorated further. And...

It was decided early that the day was to be ccancelled due to weather. However, after this front goes through the rest of the week is looking good. We wait, and wait as soaring pilots do.

For the task setters the weather has not played the game and after much deliberation the task for the day was cancelled. Free flying was available for those who wanted to fly and dodge the rain showers and for the few that did they have very good flights.

It's on! The task setters set a similar task for both open and racing classes with the big boys going further west. It was a struggle for all with only two pilots in Open class getting around and six in the racing class. Which meant a number of road retrieves and engine starts. An interesting week ahead.

Uh-Oh. Nationals. Day One. Low cloud. Rain. Why do these words so often go together?? A good turn-out at Taupo and a welcome from the Mayor is about all we've avhieved so far today. A dinner at the Club courtesy of Neil Harker tonight to look forward to, and hopefully better weather tomorrow.
